Chelsea & The Simboli Properties

Chelsea has a natural demand for commercial office space driven by three local industries the Produce Market, Logan Airport and energy providers that operate the oil and gas tank fields – in conjunction with its proximity to Boston.  These industries, along with support businesses such as shipping, freight forwarding, custom brokers, fruit brokers, and other related services, created the initial influx into the Chelsea market. They continue to add demand for commercial real estate space today.

With this changing climate and development in the area, the Simboli family signed its first Federal Government/GSA lease at 80 Everett Avenue, a property now owned by The Simboli Properties. Since then, the Simboli family has entered into more than a dozen leases with GSA, ranging from the Social Security Administration to many airport related security agencies, culminated by the recent award to build the new FBI headquarters in Chelsea.

Since 1985 the Simboli family has purchased and developed 14 properties in Chelsea. This history and understanding of the market led Anthony J. Simboli and his new company, The Simboli Properties, to purchase a majority of the family holdings in Chelsea in 2010.

Recognizing this strong foundation of local demand, aided by excellent community relations and support from city government, the Simboli family sought to expand and supplement the economic base to include other large institutional users. They introduced Mass General Hospital (“MGH”) to the area.  MGH retrofitted an existing building in Chelsea into a neighborhood health clinic. The current facility occupies 60,000 square feet and provides services to 168,000 patients a year. Since the opening of MGH, the Simboli family has signed five other leases with MGH in neighboring buildings.
